영어 논문 스타일(문체): 대명사, 부정의 표현, 부사의 위치 등

1. 가급적이면 1인칭 대명사를 쓰지 않는다

학술 논문에서 1인칭 대명사 I, We를 쓸 수도 있지만 쓰지 않는 경우가 많습니다.

따라서 아래 표에서 왼쪽 문장은 오른쪽 문장과 같이 쓰는 것이 일반적입니다.

2. 가급적이면 2인칭 대명사를 쓰지 않는다

1인칭 대명사 I, We를 잘 쓰지 않는 것처럼 2인칭 대명서 you도 잘 쓰지 않습니다. 

You를 쓰지 않기 위해 수동태를 써야 할 수도 있습니다.

The results can be seen in Table 1.

3. 부정형의 표현

3.1 not...any 대신 no를 사용한다

The analyst didn't yield any new results.

The analyst yielded no new results.

3.2 not...much  대신 little을 사용한다

The government didn't allocate much funding for the program.

The government allocated little funding for the program.

3.3 not...many 대신 few를 사용한다

This problem doesn't have many sustainable solutions.

This problem has few sustainable problems.

4. 모호한 표현은 쓰지 않는 편이 좋다

and so forth나 etc. (..등)과 같은 모호한 표현은 가능하면 쓰지 않습니다.

5. 축약어를 쓰지 않는다

논문에서는 일반적으로 isn't, aren't, won't와 같은 축약어는 잘 쓰지 않습니다.

따라서 아래 문장에서 왼쪽 문장은 오른쪽과 같이 쓰는 것이 일반적입니다.

Export figures won't improve until the economy is stronger.

6. 가급적이면 직접적인 질문을 쓰지 않는다

직접적인 질문은 독자의 관심을 끄는 효과적인 수단이 될 수도 있지만, 일반적으로는 아래와 같이 간접 의문문을 씁니다.

Why has antibiotic resistance increased?

Many studies have investigated why antibiotic resistance has increased.  또는   It is important to understand why antibiotic resistance has increased.  또는   It remains unclear why antibiotic resistance has increased.

7. 부사의 위치

일반적인 문장에서는 부사가 문장 처음이나 마지막에 배치되지만, 논문에서는 아래 예문과 같이 문장 중간에 쓰이는 경우가 많습니다.

This model was developed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) originally and was adapted by Lalonde and Muir (2007) later.

8. 불필요하게 많은 단어를 사용하지 않는다

더 적은 단어로 똑같은 의미를 전달할 수 있다면 더 좋습니다.

아래 예문에서 왼쪽 문장을 오른쪽 문장으로 간결하게 표현할 수 있습니다.

It may be difficult to make a decision about the method that should be used.

Choosing the proper method may be difficult.
